Mumbai: A number of senior SEBI officials spent the earlier half of this week in New Delhi at a training session on Parliamentary procedures and practices.
The briefing sessions _ through Monday to Wednesday _ were given by two or three Members of Parliament, and a number of retired Indian Administrative Service officials, said sources.
This is the first time that SEBI officials are attending such a session.
This training session is routine for civil servants and police officials. SEBI is accountable to the Ministry of Finance and to Parliament, and it is only in order that they be trained too, said a SEBI official.
Knowledge of parliamentary procedures also helps SEBI provide information to Parliament when members’ questions have to be answered, said sources.
What with stocks declining drastically over the past few months, and with the general concern about FII investment, issue of P-notes by them and so on, it is natural to expect SEBI to be called upon to supply information for answers to questions raised in Parliament, or to clarify regulations or supply statistics, they said.
