Abstract:
Why has the health insurance sector in the country not taken off as it was intended to?
Health insurance is the area, which had enticed the private players & had provoked them to talk about India and for which there was a lot of enthusiasm 7 years ago. Part of the reason has been the selective approach of the insurers in tying up with corporate accounts and then giving as an add-on, not on a standalone basis with an entire commercial outlook where profitability is the key concern (as should be the case). Besides this what is constraining the progress of health insurance in India, which concerns the regulator, insurance executives & the government also.
